Stupid Cupid was the valentines day stunt on MTV, where they would play a full day or love-song music clips and random MTV dating shows.
Me and Andy (the awesome promo producer at MTV) decided it would be nice to have a little animated cupid
flying around, and shoot himself in the head. I was reluctant at first to do this, since I think the timeline was 4 days or something to have this done, and I didn't know how to do character rigging in Cinema 4D at that time (I was used to using Maya at home), but Andy convinced me to do it (which I'm totally grateful for him pushing me to aim higher like that).
I started modelling out a scene, with a bit of a japanese game show/love machine sort of vibe, but we decided it probably looked a bit too young for MTV. So for a twist, I made the love heart slightly resemble a more gory real heart and darkened the colours more.
Anyway the next 4 work days (plus weekend) were fairly mental, I somehow managed to design, model, animate, light, render and composite the cupid character and the rest of the scene by the deadline, with satisfactory results (albeit, slightly under-animated).
