The Beatles: A Day in the Life was a day on VH1 dedicated entirely to Beatles related music and documentaries, to promote the release of Beatles Rockband.
I was totally stoked to get to work on this since The Beatles are by far my favourite band.
We were provided with a few old black and white photos of the beatles, so for the promo and packaging I decided it could be nice to somehow bring these pictures to life by drawing up some colourful yellow submarine elements and sticking them into the photos.
I hadn't used 3D layers before in After Effects, so I thought it might be a good idea to learn how to with this project.
I made a test shot (seen below) with a photo of John and Paul in some hotel room, by separating it into layers, and projecting them onto 3D layers in after effects. This seemed to work well, so I put together a fly-through effect with 3 other photos. A big problem I had was with the keyframe interlopation in after effects, but I managed to work though it and get a fairly smooth camera movement.
Anooyingly, just as I finished this project, I was provided with images of all the album covers to use (how good would it have been to do a 3D fly-thru of the album covers!? Damn!).
